Bill of quantities
Entering the priced works
The bill is the spine of the job. Every certificate values against these lines and the final account adjusts them. Enter it once, properly, and you do not touch it again.

Keep your own structure
Enter the bill the way you priced it. Sections, subtotals and item order should match the document the client already has, because the certificate they receive follows the same shape and they will recognise it without a covering explanation.
- Open Bill of Quantities from the sidebar.
- Add a section separator for each element: substructure, superstructure, finishes and so on.
- Add the priced items underneath, each with a reference, a description and a contract value.
You do not need all of it to start
A partial bill still produces a correct certificate for the work you have entered. Put in the sections you are valuing this period and add the rest as the job goes on.
This matters when you are moving a job that is already running and you want to issue this month rather than next.
Provisional sums
Enter them as normal lines at their full value. You value them as they are drawn down and adjust them in the final account against what the work actually cost.
Omissions
When the client removes work, mark the line omitted rather than deleting it.
- Mark the item omitted in the bill.
- The line is excluded from valuation and shows on the certificate as omitted rather than vanishing.
- The omission carries through to the final account as an adjustment to the contract sum.
Subcontract packages
If the job has subcontractors, price their packages separately. Each subcontract carries its own value, its own retention rate and its own valuations.
The difference between what you certify up to the client and what you certify down to subcontractors is the cash position shown on the dashboard.
Measurement standard and currency
The bill can be measured to whatever standard the job uses. UK work priced under SMM or NRM sits alongside international bills measured under POMI or CESMM, or re-measured under FIDIC Red Book Clause 12.
Set the currency for the job and the bill and every certificate read in it. QScope keeps your references and structure as priced, it does not translate an international bill into a UK shape.
